IIM-B needs time to implement reservation for backward classes
Bangalore, July 26 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) today ruled out the possibility of implementing the Centre's proposal of providing reservation to backward classes at one go, citing faculty shortage as the main hindrance.
Talking to newspersons after a board meeting of the IIM-B here, Institute Director Prakash G Apte said atleast three to four years were needed to implement reservation and ''for that we need additional faculty.'' He said the IIMs across the country were in dialogue with various committees of the Central Government on the issue.
He said IIMB was already short-staffed as it had only 73 faculty members as against a requirement of 89. If reservation was introduced, the strength needs to be increased to 110 as the strength of students would go up by 54 per cent from the current level of 240.
Mr Apte said the Board, which met under the chairmanship of Mr Mukesh Ambani, did not discuss about the reservation issue.
