High Court directs riot victims to approach commision

Patna, Jul 26 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed Bhagalpur riot victims to place their grivenaces related to non payment of compensations before the inquiry commission constituted for the purpose.

Hearing a public interest litigation petition, Chief Justice J N Bhatt issued the directive.

Through the petition, Millet committee had urged the court to direct the state government for paying compensation to the riot victims. The petitioner had also prayed that the compensation should be at par with the ex gratia paid to the victims of riot that erupted after assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The state government had constituted the commission to investigate into the laxity of police in booking the culprits of Bhagalpur riot.
