Haryana Govt and County Maryland sign accord

Maryland (USA), July 26 (UNI) The Haryana Government and Prince George's County-Maryland today signed a joint declaration of cooperation aimed at taking up joint research projects.

Finance Minister Birender Singh signed the declaration on behalf of the Haryana Government while Mr Jack B Johnson did so on behalf of the county.

Under the accord, the state government will take up joint research projects with the Maryland University systems and other institutions of higher learning.

The areas to be covered include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biological Science, Bio-technology and Nano technology.

The area of education would include faculty-student exchange programme, syllabus upgradation and joint research projects.

Both sides would encourage, develop and expand joint activities, programmes and ventures of mutual benefit and exchange ideas in the fields of mutual interest in both public and private sectors. They would also participate in economic development programmes.

They would recognise the special significance of trade tourism, science and technology and education and sister city relations and foreign trade zones (Special Economic Zones) with regard to economic development of Prince George's county and Haryana and the well being of their people.

The two sides would strengthen ties and develop relations for the mutual benefit of people of Prince George's County and State of Haryana.

Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mrs Asha Sharma was among there present on the occasion.
