Govt must take steps to solve Sabarimala controversy: DIC (K)

Thiruvananthapuram, July 26 (UNI) Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) president K Muraleedharan today urged the state government to take steps to solve the mystery behind the Sabarimala Tantri issue and bring out the truth.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting of the party's working committee here, he said considering the feelings of devotees, both the government and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which administers the temple, should take initiative to find a solution to it.

The tendency of police officials making press statements at each and every stage of inquiry was not good as it would help destroy evidence besides making culprits escape.

Welcoming the stand taken by Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran, he said he was sincerely taking efforts to find a solution to the controversies sparked off by Kannada actress Jayamala.

On the self-financing college issue, he said both the government and managements should settle the issue amicably, as their fight would affect the future of college students in the state.

If the students wing of the ruling party continued its agitations in this regard, other party organisations would also be forced to hold protests against it, Mr Muraleedharan warned.

He alleged the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated with frequent reports of custodial deaths and harassement.
