FKJGP urges Sonia to remove Sharma as CMD of NEEPCO
Shillong, Jul 26 (UNI) The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People today sent a letter to UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi demanding immediate removal of Subhash Chandra Sharma as Chairman cum Managing Director of North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).
In its letter, the FKJGP, an influential NGO in Meghalaya, sought Mrs Gandhi's intervention in removing the 'controversial' Chairman from his post.
The NGO also expressed concern over the delay of the Congress led UPA government in taking action against the Corporation's Chairman despite several petitions submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Perturbed at the UPA led government's 'delaying tactics', the Federation has threatened to launch its next phase of agitation if the Centre continued to remain 'adamant' on this issue.
This threat came in the backdrop of the three-day office picketing of NEEPCO headquarters that ended here today in protest against the UPA government's delay in removing Mr Sharma.
Earlier, the CBI had also indicted Mr Sharma for faking his experience certificates to get the post of Chairman in the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).
Like the past two days, the NEEPCO headquarters today wore a deserted look with most of staffers abstaining from duty.
A senior NEEPCO official, on condition of anonymity, told UNI here that the employees were also supporting the agitating NGO in their bid to remove Mr Sharma from the helm of affairs.
In fact, at least nine NEEPCO employees' Unions and Associations have supported the three-day office picketing sponsored by the FKJGP demanding change in guard in this central government owned corporate house.
Accusing Mr Sharma of indulging in 'nepotism' and 'favouritism', the employees' Unions and Associations said NEEPCO had lost several projects, which were under execution causing heavy loss to the Corporation due to the present CMD.
