Five students suffer burns

Kancheepuram, Jul 26: Five students of a Government higher secondary school suffered burns when they fell into a boiling sambar spilled from a vessel at a school noon meal centre in Melavalampettai in this district of Tamil Nadu.

Police said the incident occurred yesterday when students, who lined up to receive noon meal jostled with each other, resulting in the falling of huge vessel containing sambar.

Five students--Dehenan, Veerapan, Santhosh (all 12 years), Selvaraj (13), Sivasubramaniam (14), who fell on the boiling sambar on the ground sustained burns.

They were first treated at the Government headquarters hospital at Chengalpattu and later referred to the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital at Chennai, police added.
