EU calls emergency ministers' meeting on Lebanon

BRUSSELS, July 26 (Reuters) European Union foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on the crisis in Lebanon next Tuesday, EU president Finland announced today.

A presidency spokesman said the rare August session, in a period when EU institutions are normally closed for summer holidays, would deal only with West Asia situation.

Several EU countries are considering joining a proposed international peace force for Lebanon and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is involved in talks to try to bring an end to fighting between Israel and Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas.
