Delhi an important transit point in drug trafficking
New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Minister of State for Home S Regupathy today conceded that Delhi had become an important transit point in drug trafficking.
Replying to a query, Mr Regupathy said it was so because of Delhi's proximity to opium producing states and the centre of transportation network.
While 1,808 persons were arrested in 2005 in connection with drug related cases, 1,013 have been arrested till July 15 this year, the minister told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
He, however, added that there was no proposal to set up 'fast-track courts' to try drug-related cases.
