Cloudburst washes away 35 km road
Dehradun, July 26 (UNI) A cloudburst washed away a 35 km road at Gudsal in Rudraprayag District Collectorate in Uttaranchal today but there were no reports of any human casualties.
According to Disaster Management sources, a heavy flood resulted by the cloudburst washed away 17 cattle, 8 houses, 6 shops and few gharats at Gurgu village 27 km from Rudraprayag District Collectorate.
All the affected families had been transported to safe places and PWD department has been pressed into repairing of damaged roads.
Special attention was being paid in sensitive areas at Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Tehri, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts.
Heavy rain lashed most parts of Uttaranchal today, resulting in rise in water levels of various rivers. Meanwhile in keeping with the Met department's prediction of further heavy rain in coming 48 hours, State Disaster Management Department has issued instructions to all District Administration to remain alert and keep eye on sensitive places.
According to the release issued by Central Water Commission Himalayan Ganga Region, 8.30 am records today showed rise in water level of River Alaknanda at rudraprayag and Srinagar(Garhwal), Pinder river at Karnaprayag, River Mandakini at Rudraprayag, river Nayar at Marora and River ganga at Devprayag, Rishikesh and Haridwar. However they have not crossed danger level anywhere.
Highest rainfall was recorded in Uttarkashi with 123.7 mm followed by Dehradun with 90.1mm, the release said.
