Case against ruling SP MP posted to Aug 10

Allahabad, July 26 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today posted hearing in the case against ruling Samajwadi Party MP Shankh Lal Manjhi to August 10, 2006.

A writ petition was filed against the order of Basti District Magistrate, who had declared the Schedule Caste (SC) certificate issued in favour of the MP as valid.

A division bench comprising Justices V M Sahai and Sabhajit Yadav passed the order after hearing state advocate general S M A Kazmi and petitioner's counsel S G Hasnain.

The petitioner has challenged the validity of the SC certificate.

The writ stated that the SP leader won the election from Ambedkar Nagar (Reserved) Lok Sabha constituency on the basis of certificate.

It alleged Manjhi was not an SC and could not have contested the election on a reserved seat for SC candidate.
