Bhutan King meets President Kalam

New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Bhutan King Jigme Singhye Wangchuk called on President A P J Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening and discussed bilateral relations and regional and international situation.

The meeting lasted 30 minutes, officials said.

The Bhutan Monarch who arrived here this morning on a six-day working visit, is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday for discussions on bilateral, regional and international situation.

The visit is aimed at strengthening economic and energy cooperation.

He will meet Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee tomorrow and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday.

During the visit, the two countries are likely to sign two agreements on trade and commerce and on cooperation in hydro-electricity generation, sources said.

The king is accompanied by Crown Prince Dasho Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and Trade Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

He leaves for Kathmandu on July 31.
