Anti-terror fight in J
New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Counter-terrorist operations in Kashmir since 2000 had claimed lives of 2170 security personnel till last year and cost the government exchequer about Rs 115 crore.
Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said that during the same period, 8634 terrorists were killed and 2952 arrested.
He said the arms seized from terrorists during the period revealed that Ak rifles were the mostly used weapons. As many as 7574 of such rifles had been seized till 2005-2006 since 2000.
He said 866 kg of RDX and 9096 kg of explosive material was also recovered from the terrorists.
Replying to another question, he said that till the end of June this year, the number of estimated infiltrators into Kashmir from across the border was 299 compared to 92 during the corresponding period last year.
There have been reports of some cases of terrorist infiltration from across Bangladesh and Nepal too, said the Minister.
