Airtel charged with blocking BSNL signals

Aizawl, JulY 26 (UNI) Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) here today alleged that Bharati Telecom (Airtel) had deliberately locked its signals for its cellone subscribers in a bid to tarnish its reputation in the state.

BSNL officials told UNI that they had honoured the agreement between the two companies and kept the company's machines open for receiving Airtel signals but the same was not reciprocated by Airtel.

''It has been learnt that Airtel has blocked us from sending our signals in the system to their subscribers as a result of which BSNL mobile users cannot reach Airtel customers,'' the officials said.

''We have warned Airtel to make necessary amendments immediately or else the contract would be cancelled,'' they said.

The officials also said that a complaint letter had already been sent to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for an immediate intervention in this issue.

Earlier in the week, Airtel launched its mobile operations in the state with a subscriber base of over 10,000.
