Tobacco meet to commence tomorrow
Rajahmundry, July 25 (UNI) A six-day long Staff Research Council (SRC) meeting and IVth group meeting of All India Network Research Project on tobacco of Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI) would commence here at the institute's premises from tomorrow.
According to CTRI official sources, the meet would review the progress of ongoing research programmes and also finalise the future strategy for research programmes for ensuing tobacco crop season 2006-07.
The meet would be attended Dr Goutham Kallo, ICAR, Dr S Ragjhuvardhan Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Angrau, Dr J Suresh Babu, Executive Director and Chairman Incharge Tobacco Board, and several eminent scientists from different parts of the country R K Nagarajan, Dr K Deo Singh, Dr B Rosaiah, Dr B V Ramakrishnayya, Dr R Lakshminarayana and senior officials from tobacco industry.
The recommendations and suggestions of the meeting will be beneficial for the tobacco farming and trade, said Dr V Krishnamurthy Director, CTRI. He said that the future tobacco research will be oriented to develop high yielding, better quality varieties, reduction of harmful substances in tobacco leaf in general and Tobacco Specific Nitrosamini in particular. The six day session would be four-day delibertions of SRC followed by two day group meeting of All India Network Research Project on Tobacco (AINRPT) would be beneficial for tobacco scientists, farmers, tobacco trade and thereby contributing to the national economy.
