Relax seven years moratorium for compensation in missing cases
Mumbai, July 25 (UNI) Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya today stressed the need for changing the law of seven years moratorium for paying the compensation to the relatives of the missing persons in special circumstances.
''The relatives of 54 people who went missing after July 26 flood one year before could not get the compensation so far as their death could not be established,'' Mr Somaiya told reporters here today.
He said that he would make efforts so that this seven year moratorium could be relaxed in such circumstances like floods where the bodies could not be found.
Mr Somaiya, alleged that despite the State government announcing a package of Rs 10,000 crore and centre had of Rs 1,200 crore after the floods in the city, not a single paisa has been received so far.
He said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Metropolitan Regional development Authority spent Rs 51 crore for rejuvenation of Mithi river.
He demanded that apart from Mithi river authority, such authorities should be created for all the urban rivers of Maharashtra in Thane, Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Pune Nagpur facing similar problems.
He said the BJP organised a programme of condolance and Varsha shraddha for the 550 people who died in the July 26 incident.
He aso demanded the government should publish all the records and transport sheets of the transportation of silt from Mithi river to other places.
