TVS Motor Company registers 26 pc growth in Q1

Chennai, Jul 24: TVS Motor Company recorded a growth of 26 per cent and reported a turnover of Rs 939.62 crore for the first quarter ended June 2006 compared to Rs 746.60 crore recorded for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Announcing the audit results at a press conference here today, Company President K N Radhakrishnan said the total number of two wheelers sold in Q1 was 376,328 units compared to 307,425 units during the same period last year, registering a 22 per cent growth.

The two-wheeler sales was buoyed by the strong performance of motorcycles, which recorded 2,33,506 units during the quarter with a growth rate of 32 per cent, surpassing the industry growth of 24 per cent.

The Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at Rs 30.14 crore compared to Rs 36.08 crore last year and Profit After Tax (PAT) stood at Rs 21.26 crore compared to Rs 24.90 crore achieved during the same period last year.

He said TVS StaR City continued to be in demand and had crossed 8,00,000 mark since its launch. TVS Apache received an excellent response in all the key markets and the company was ramping up its production to meet the demand.

TVS Apache had already become the number two brand in the premium segment of the motorcycle market and was expected to garner a sizeable share in the segment in the current fiscal.

The TVS Scooty Pep+ continued to maintain its leadership in the sub 100 cc segment, he added.
