Tusker kills man

Badwani, MP, July 24 (UNI) An elephant lifted a man with its trunk and smashed him when he tried to push the sleeping tusker with its trunk at Mandiapura village in this district, police said today.

Station House Officer Rajesh Chouhan said the animal was tied to tree along a road when a passer-by was asked Chhitu (47), who was sitting beside the elephant, to push the tusker and provide him way.

However, Chhitu did not wake the animal's 'mahout' and started pushing the elephant himself. The angry tusker lifted Chhitu with its trunk and smashed him.

Mr Chouhan said the deceased was moving about with the elephant and its mahout since the past three days. Precautionary steps were being taken to release the animal in the forest.
