Top amateurs to tee off at Northern India Amateur golf

Gurgaon, July 24 (UNI) Top amateurs would be vying for supremacy when the Royal Challenge Northern India Amateur golf championship tees off at the Par-72 Classic Golf Resort here tomorrow.

The inaugural event of the Royal Challenge National Amateur Circuit will witness the likes of Joseph Chakola, Simarjeet Singh, Jaskeerat Dullet, Jasjeet Singh and Chirag Kumar trying to outshine each other.

Leading the field will be Himmat Rai, who in his rookie season clinched the Eastern India and the All India Amateur Golf Championship.

Three-time Sri Lankan Amateur champion, Simarjeet Singh, who clinched the Classic Open last season, will also provide serious challenge to the young guns.

Number one amateur Anirban Lahiri will be one player to watch out especially after the 19-year-old lad from Secunderabad won the GKD Memorial at Coimbatore and finished second at the Southern India and the Eagleton Amateur.

Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won the Eagleton Amateur this season, will also pose a serious threat.

The Royal Challenge National Amateur circuit will feature eight events starting with the Northern India Amateur. It will be followed by the Golden Greens Open Amateur from August 8-11.

The action will then shift to Chandigarh for the Samarvir Sahi Amateur in November. After that the bandwagon moves to Kolkata for the Eastern India Amateur and the RCGC Cup in December. The western leg will feature two tournaments in January, namely the Western India Amateur in Mumbai and the Pune Amateur. The tour will culminate with the All India Amateur golf championship at the KGA in February.
