Tens of thousands offer Bali in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 24 (UNI) Tens of thousands of people in Kerala today offered 'bali' to their departed forefathers on the auspicious occasion of Karkataka vavu, the first full moon day of the Malayalam month of Karkataka.

A large number of people offered bali to the souls of their beloved ones at the Thiruvallam Parasurama temple here, Varkala Janardhana Swami temple, Shangumugham beach here, the Sivarati Manappuram on the banks of river Periyar in Aluva, the banks of River Bharathappuzha in Thrissur and several other places across the state.

At the 2000-year-old Thiruvallam temple, the only one dedicated to Lord Parasurama, arrangements were made to offer bali tharpanam by 2,000 people at a time.

At Shanghumugham, people were deprived of the vast stretch of beach as it was eroded by the raging sea. Only a small stretch of beach was available to the thousands who converged there since early morning.

Reports from other parts of the state said thousands offered bali at various temples located on the banks of rivers and on beaches.
