Swimmers eye berth for PAG Physically Challenged tourney

Vijayawada, July 24 (UNI) Four physically challenged city swimmers, including international S Tirumali Kumar, are eyeing berths in the Indian team for the Pan Asian Games (PAG) for the Physically Challenged to be held at Kuala Lumpur from November 25.

Apart from Kumar the three other physically challenged swimmers from the city -- A Lakshman, MD Karimullah and A Narasimha -- would take part in the Indian team trials to be held at the Sports Authority of India(SAI) Centre in Bangalore, where team for the PAG, would be picked on September three.

They were selected from out of 30 aspirants.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Kumar, who won six gold, two silver and one bronze medals from eight international meets said they are on the verge of getting into the Indian contingent.

Mr Kumar said he is also hoping for a place in the Indian contingent for World Athletic Championship for the Physically Challenged to be held at the Netherlands from September two.

The team would be selected in a couple of days, he added.
