Mumbai, July 24 (UNI) Dr Tanvir Ahmed Ansari, a medical graduate arrested here yesterday has confessed to have travelled to Pakistan in 2004, said ATS Joint Commissioner K P Raghuvanshi today.

Briefing mediapersons at the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters, Mr Raghuvanshi said preliminary investigations confirmed that Ansari had undergone training in handling explosives, weapons and making bombs in Pakistan in 2004.

With these, a total of four suspects have been arrested in the last two weeks by the ATS in a nationwide hunt to nail down culprits in connection with the serial blasts.

The ATS chief said in view of the large conspiracy and complexities involved in the case, any arrests would be made only after undertaking proper investigations.

Mr Raghuvanshi admitted that investigations were slow as a result of lack of evidence, but assured of more arrests in the coming days.

When questioned about the role of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) behind the July 11 serial blasts, the ATS chief gave a guarded response saying that strong evidence could only lead to conclusions.

On July 21, the ATS and Bihar Police in a joint operation had arrested three suspects -- Mohammed Kalam Ansari and Mohammed Khalil Sheikh from Bihar and Mumtaj Ahmed Chaudhary from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, for their alleged involvement in the recent serial blasts.

The same day, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A V Shatye at Mazgaon court in South Central Mumbai remanded them to police custody till July 31.

The trio were booked under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Indian Explosive Act.
