Private evaluation of irrigation projects to ensure quality
Gulbarga July 24 (UNI) To ensure quality work in irrigation projects, the state government will get agencies from outside to evaluate the works done by contractors before payments were made, Water Resources Minister K S Eshwarappa said today.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference at Bushnoor, about 40 km from here, the minister said services of independent inspection teams had been taken to eliminate irregularities in the projects.
The Upper Tungabhadra project had been taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 471 crores and Rs 45 crores had been allocated this year to carry out works for which tenders had been called.
He alleged that the government of Goa and the centre were not co-operating in resolving dispute over Kalasa Banduri canal project.
A meeting of elected representatives had been convened on july 31 to discuss the disputes regarding upper Tungabhadra project.
Earlier, the minister laid foundation stone for the digging and repair work of right and left canals of the Amarj major irregation project at in Busnoor constructed at a cost of Rs 125 crore.
Commenting on suspended BJP MLC Janardhana Reddy's charges of bribery against the Chief Minister and other two ministers, Mr Eshwarappa said bjp would not tolerate indispline and cited examples of top leaders like Uma Bharathi being expelled on the charges of indispline.
