PCCSS activists demand amendment to RTE Bill
New Delhi, Jul 24: Activists of the Peoples' Campaign for Common School System (PCCSS) today held a sit-in here, demanding that an amended Right to Education bill be tabled in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The campaigners are also likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submit a memorandum.
The PCCSS is also demanding that the bill be amended to include common school system.
PCCSS Convenor Ambrish Rai said the common school system is the only way to achieve quality education for all.
''The present bill does not meet these requirements,'' he added.
Besides several students' and teachers' organisation, CPI polit bureau member Brinda Karat and historian and educationist Arjun Dev participated in the protest.
The National Alliance for Right to Education and Equity also demanded that the bill be tabled in the monsoon session of Parliament.
