NWKRTC slashes ticket fares to beat pvt competition
Hubli, July 24 (UNI) Entering into a price war with private operators, the government-owned North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has slashed its travelling ticket fares.
The NWKRTC's ticket rates from Hubli to Bangalore were reduced to 296 from Rs 330, Hubli to Gadag slashed to Rs 18 from Rs 27 and Hubli to Bijapur Rs 80 from Rs 120. It was also running 125 new buses between Hubli and Dharwad, displaying travelling rate as Rs 7.50.
Corporation sources said gross violation of rules by the private operators had led to severe loss to it. Though private operators had permission to run their buses as contract carriage from point to point, they plied it as stage carriage buses.
When NWKRTC Managing Director pointed it out and proved his case by booking some private buses, he was transferred within two days by the government, the sources added.
