NEEPCO headquarters paralysed

Shillong, July 24 (UNI) The North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) headquarters was paralysed here today due to the three-day office picketing called by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP).

The FKJGP has been protesting against the UPA government's delay in removing controversial Chairman and Managing Director Subash Chandra Sharma.

On the first-day of office picketing, which started at 0900 hours, most of the government employees abstained from duty.

Security officer, S Rajbonshi manning the Corporation headquarters told UNI only 30 people out of 400 attended office.

Mr Rajbonshi also indicated the NEEPCO employees were also supporting the NGOs in their bid to remove Mr Sharma from the helm of affairs.

The FKJGP has called the three-day office picketing demanding the immediate removal of Mr Sharma for indulging in ''favourtism'' and ''nepotism''.

Earlier, the CBI had also indicted Mr Sharma for faking his experience certificates to get the post of Chairman in the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).

Various NEEPCO employees union, besides several organisations in the region including the influential North East Student's Organisation has also demanded the immediate removal of the alleged tainted NEEPCO CMD.

Meghalaya police as a precautionary measure has tightened its security arrangements within the vicinity of the NEEPCO headquarters.
