National highways deserted due to blockade

Imphal, Jul 24 (UNI) Life has been severely affected following two strikes on different National Highways here.

Bus services on the National Highway plying from Imphal to Guwahati via Kohima blocked the roads protesting the alleged demand of money by militants at various check points in Nagaland.

The bus owners said they would continue the stir till tomorrow.

There is no rail head in Manipur and more than 100 passenger bus services ply on Imphal Guwahati sector daily.

Meanwhile, another five-day long economic blockade on National Highway 53 has been called by the Zeliangrong Students Union of Nungba Area, Nungba Youth Organisation and Nungba women body since July 22 demanding infrastructure at Primary Heath Centre at Nungba sub-divisional headquarters.
