MPTDC to provide vehicle-related info through SMS

Jabalpur, July 24 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Transport Department Corporation (MPTDC) has launched a service to provide vehicle-related information -- registration number, engine number and chassis no -- through Short Message Service (SMS).

MPTDC vice-chairman Upendra Jain told UNI yesterday that the service aimed at reducing inconvenience faced by the public in obtaining information. It will also quick information to police department about real owners of stolen vehicles.

Mr Jain said high-level computerisation was going on in the department. Vehicle-related information could be obtained by typing either the registration, engine number and chassis number on mobile phone and sending SMS to 9827020002.

The service would enable prospective buyers of second-hand vehicles to get accurate information and not be deceived into purchasing stolen vehicles. Besides, the police would benefit by obtaining fast and accurate information about vehicles in case of accidents and stolen vehicles.
