LS calls for booking Mumbai blasts accused

New Delhi, July 24: The Lok Sabha today strongly condemned the the July 11 Mumbai blasts and Srinagar grenade attacks and called for necessary steps to bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous crimes.

''We should all pledge to fight this menace and to root out the scourge of terrorism, collectively and unitedly, with resolute courage and strength,'' Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said as soon as the House met on the opening day of the Monsoon Session.

Strongly condemning the ''dastardly and cowardly acts of the terrorists'', he said their nefarious design to halt the progress and even tempo of life and to divide the people of the country can never succeed.

''I am sure all sections of the House will join me in commending the courage, fortitude and sense of patriotism shown by our people in the wake of the senseless killings,'' he said and expressed condolences, on behalf of the House, to the bereaved families and sympathy to the injured, wishing them a speedy recovery.

The House stood in silence for a short while as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed.

On July 11, as many as 184 persons lost their lives and 840 were injured in seven bomb blasts in suburban trains in Mumbai, and nine persons, mainly tourists, were killed and 33 injured in five grenade attacks in Srinagar.

The House also condoled the deaths of people of Indonesia in May earthquakes and the July Tsunami.
