K'taka Govt to supply fogging machines to GPs
Bangalore, July 24 (UNI) The Karnataka government has decided to supply fogging machines to all Gram Panchayats to check the menace of mosquitoes, Health Minister R Ashok said today.
Speaking to newspersons here, he claimed that Chikungunya, the dreaded communicable disease, was contained substantially, due to the timely efforts taken by the state government. A conference of Health Ministers of the southern states had been convened to evolve a joint strategy to fight the disease.
Mr Ashok said the state government had recruited as many as 300 new doctors to be posted in rural places after the outbreak of the disease. The government had also approved the filling up of 375 vacant medical officers' posts and it was decided to give weightage to candidates hailing from moffusil areas.
Warning the transferred doctors who were yet to report on duty of punitive action, including suspension from service, he said the government had streamlined the entire process of supply of medicines to government hospitals in the state.
Primary health centres, taluk and district hospitals would receive medicines in advance to meet the demand for three months as against the earlier procedure of waiting to exhaust the supplied medicines on a monthly basis.
