Judicial vacancies: SC grants 4 weeks time to file schedule

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted four weeks time to the states, Union Territories and Registrar Generals of various high courts in the country to file schedule for filling up the vacancies of judges in the subordinate courts in their respective states as per the apex court judgment dated April 3,2006.

A bench comprising chief justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Mr. Justice C K Thakker adjourned the hearing of the case for six weeks after it was brought to the notice of the court that notices to some of the high courts have been sent late but the allegation was later found to be incorrect.

The court had directed the states and high courts to file time schedule within three months for filling up the vacancies of subordinate courts in the country in time and also to clear the backlog of vacancies so that judicial system in the country may be strealined to clear the back log of pending cases as well as expediting the disposal of cases in district courts.
