High court names observer for July 30 CAB polls

Kolkata, Jul 24 (UNI) A city court today appointed a former high court judge as observer to conduct the Cricket Association of Bengal(CAB) election to be held on July 30.

Judge P K Sarkar of city civil and sessions court passed the order after hearing the petitioner and CAB counsels for the past two days.

The court named Mr Santosh Foujdar, former judge of Calcutta and Allahabad High Courts, as observer which was accepted by both the parties.

The court had rejected the suggestion of both parties naming an observer and appointed justice Foujdar.

Petitioner Samar Pal, an official of city's Aryans club, had moved the court last week praying for appointment of observer for free and fair election to the state's cricket body.

Though the court fixed the hearing by the week-end, another petition was filed before a division bench of Calcutta High Court seeking the same.

Early last week the high court had sent back the petition before the city court asking it to hold the hearing properly and pass a direction well ahead of the election day.

The court has also directed the police authorities to make all necessary arrangements on the polling day to avoid any untoward incident and assist the observer whenever needed.
