Government reconstitutes KVIC

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) The government has reconstituted the Khadi and Village Industries Commission with Ms Kumud Joshi -- Zonal member Western Zone -- as its new Chairperson.

The new appointees include Zonal Members, Expert Members in Science and Technology, Marketing, Rural Development, Technical Education and Training and the ex-officio Members of the Commission.

The UPA Government, in its National Common Minimum Programme, had declared that the functioning of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) would be revamped.

The government dissolved the KVIC and subsequently the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2005 was introduced last year in the Lok Sabha on August 22.

It was referred to the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry headed by Mr Santosh Bagrodia, MP, for detailed examination, which submitted its report to Parliament on December 13, 2005.

It has recommended amendments to four clauses of the Bill which got the approval of the Union Cabinet on February 1, 2006.
