Efforts on to release SC scholarship: YSR

Hyderabad, July 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said his government was taking all efforts for release of scholarship arrears for SC students for the current year.

According to an official release here, Dr Reddy said his government had submitted proposals to the Centre for release of Rs 43.30 crore as its share for post-matric scholarships for 2006-07.

The Centre released Rs 17.50 crore as ad hoc grant and the state government cleared Rs 9.50 crore towards the scholarships of current year for the first quarter.

Dr Reddy observed there had been a steady increase of amount under post-matric SC scholarships received under the Centrally-sponsored schemes since 2002-03.

As a result of increase in number of students and the year-wise shortfall in reimbursement money from Centre, an amount of Rs 158.81 crore of arrear was to be released by the Centre by the end of 2005-06.

The state had so far released Rs 98.88 crore to the districts which will be adjusted to the colleges by the end of July 2006.

In addition, the government would be releasing Rs 50.14 crore in the second quarter of the year.This will nearly clear all the arrears due for the colleges, related to 2005-06, it added.
