Drizzle in Srinagar: nights warm, day temperature normal

Srinagar, July 24 (UNI) Light showers during the day could not bring any respite from the scorching heat here.

A spokesperson for the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here told UNI that last night was warm as the minimum temperature was 22.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal.

However, the maximum temperature was 30.5 degrees Celsius, which is just 0.5 degree above normal.

The weatherman predicted rainfall at a few places in the valley, particularly on Baltal-Amarnath and Pahalgam-Amarnath routes where the two-month-long pilgrimage is on since June 11.

He said the highest ever maximum temperature recorded in the state's summer capital during the past 80 years was 37.8 degrees Celsius on June 29, 1978.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in the winter capital, Jammu, was below normal.

The spokesman said rains in north-east has changed the weather condition in Jammu where maximum was 28.7 degrees which was five degrees below normal and minimum was two degree below normal.
