Customs foil bid to smuggle two cylinder liners
Kochi, July 24 (UNI) Customs officials here foiled a bid by the crew of an Indian ship to smuggle two automobile cylinder liners valued at Rs 16.87 lakh, Commissioner of Customs P Ayyam Perumal said today.
A fine and penalty of Rs 60,000 was imposed on the captain of the ship ''M T Jag Labh'', which arrived at Cochin Port from Dhanna in the UAE on July 16, Mr Perumal said.
Mr Perumal said officers of the Customs (Preventive)-wing made a thorough search of the vessel and seized two cylinder liners, which were not declared.
A new round-the-clock control room had been set up in the headquarters of Customs Preventive in Kochi to receive any tip-offs.
The identity of the caller would be kept secret, he added.
