CII to study subsidies in China

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is studying the list of Chinese subsidies submitted to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to understand if they fall outside the WTO definition of actionable subsidies.

''If any of these subsidies are found to be actionable then we will work with the Government to understand how this issue can be taken forward. We are also requesting members to list any subsidies they feel would impact the competitiveness of Indian products,'' a statement released today said.

This is the first time China has submitted the list of subsidies to the WTO since joining the multilateral organisation in 2001.

The subsidies that have been notified by China includes grants to foreign owned companies that invest certain amount for set up operations in certain regions with in China.

The CII would be studying some of the subsidies in details.

WTO and other Trade Agreements Committee of CII headed by Mr R V Kanoria will work closely with the Government and counterpart organisations in China to get a better understanding of the subsidy regime in China and the report will be submitted next month, the statement added.
