Anganwadi workers to go on relay hunger strike from tomorrow

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) Thousands of anganwadi workers will begin their ten-day relay hunger strike from tomorrow before parliament, demanding regularisation of service and wage increase.

Besides regularisation as Grade III and IV employees, anganwadi workers and helpers have demanded making the Integrated Child Developemnt Scheme (ICDS) permanent and opening of 'aganwadi centres' in all human habitations within a prescribed frame.

Besides enhancement of their honorarium to Rs 3,000 and linkage of their remuneration with the Consumer Price Index, the Anganwadi workers have also demanded that an ex gratia retirement benefit of Rs 100,000 for the workers and Rs 50,000 for helpers above 60 years be announced.

Prominent leaders of political parties and trade unions are expected to join their agitation to express solidarity.
