Teacher suspended for handing out bizarre punishment

Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu), July 23: About 36 students of the Government Girls Higher Secondary school, Hosur, underwent the ordeal of kneeling down in a closed classroom, leading to the suspension of the teacher for handing out such a bizarre punishment.

The incident happened on Thursday and the teacher was placed under suspension yesterday after a preliminary probe by the District Chief Educational Officer (CEO) Suganya, police sources told UNI.

She had ordered 36 of the 127 students in the classroom to kneel down as punishment for making noise and bolted the classroom from outside. She also closed all the windows and left for a meeting.

When she returned after a couple of hours, some students had fainted due to suffocation and were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

The parents of the students, protested against the incident and the District police officials brought it to the notice of the CEO.

After visiting the school premises and conducting a probe, the CEO handed out the suspension orders to the guilty teacher.

No case had been registered by the police as department action was being initiated by the government.
