State Transport Corporations not to be privatised

Tiruchirapalli, July 23(UNI) The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTCS) will not not be privatised, state Transport Minister K N Nehru said here today.

Dismissing fears among employees that TNSTC was to be privatised, Mr Nehru, inaugurating a seminar on ''accident free driving'', said that the government has no such proposal.

''In fact, the state government will improve the services of the transport corporations'', he said.

Assuring the employes of TNSTCS that their welfare would be safeguarded by the government, he said steps had been taken to fill up vacancies in the transport department.

The government was making efforts to recruit skilled drivers to fill up vacancies for the post of drivers in the transport corporations, he said and appealed to drivers to follow traffic rules strictly.

Speaking on the occasion, TNSTCs Tiruchirapalli region Managing Director R Kothandapani said that over 9,500 people lost their lives and 57,000 people were injured in various road accidents in Tamil Nadu every year.
