Sowing nearly complete in Marathwada
Aurangabad, July 23 (UNI) Farming activities in Central Maharashtra's marathwada region have gained momentun as sowing is nearly complete in almost all the eight districts of the region.
According to information available at the divisional headquarter here, sowing has been completed over 90 per cent in the region, which recorded a better rainfall this year.
''Barring some parts of Latur, Osmanabad and Beed, sowing was nearly normal,'' Deputy Divisional Commissioner Dilip Shinde told UNI. According to Mr Shinde, the forthcoming week is crucial for the region, since it is expecting rainfall in the three districts, which are still in need of some more rains.
Of the eight districts in the division, Jalna topped in sowing, registering 106 per cent sowing followed by Beed (103 per cent), Aurangabad (93 per cent), Osmanabad (91 per cent), Nanded (86 per cent), Hingoli (79 per cent), Parbhani (71 per cent) and Latur (59 per cent).
Of the total 38,62,900 hectare farming area, sowing has been completed in 33,15,800 hectare farming area of Marathwada, official sources said.
Besides, Cotton, which is a major crop, Soyabean, Jowar, Moong, Urad and Maize are the other crops grown in the region, according to sources.
