Shri Ram School organises friendship camp
New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) A group of school children from Jaipur and Delhi forged a friendship with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's wife Gurcharan Kaur at the 'Shri Maitri' camp held at the Shri Ram School.
Ms Kaur, who was the chief guest at the friendship camp earlier this week, interacted with the children from the Bodh Shiksha Samiti, Jaipur and Pratham and Vidya, both schools from Delhi.
Extending the friendship was former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev, as he bowled over the children during a cricket camp he personally organised at the school to coincide with the event.
Forty-five children in the age group of 8-11 years and six teachers attended the three-day camp, an initiative that seeks to nurture the spirit of friendship.
''The camp was an attempt at reaching out and showing that the Shri community cares for widening the horizons of the children invited and the children at our own school,'' said Manika Sharma, Principal of the Shri Ram School.
The school hosted the first 'Shri Maitri' camp in 2003 when it invited 80 students from the strife-ridden Jammu.
The camp also witnessed art and craft workshops, film screenings, a theatre performance by the Earth Matters Foundation.
The children also indulged themselves in adventure sports and visits to monuments, the school authorities said.
