Security tightened in Dimapur
Kohima, July 23: Security has been beefed up in and around Dimapur following reports that some underground outfits from outside the state were planning bomb blasts in Dimapur town.
Official sources here today said there were intelligence reports that some underground outfits had already sneaked into the town with RDX and IED and were planning to plant bombs in the busy areas of the town, specially in the crowded markets, bus terminus and railway station.
Arrest of ten cadres of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) and busting of an arm racket in Dimapur had led to the information.
As a precautionary measure before the run down to Independence Day, personnel of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), Government Railway Police, CRPF, Assam Rifles, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Special Branch and SIB were engaged to thwart any incident in the town.
Dog squad had been pressed into service in the railway station, all busy markets, bus terminus and crowded areas.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) J Changkija yesterday reviewed the security scenario in Dimapur with all high officials of the district during his visit.
