Outgoing Mizoram Governor blames Congress president

Aizawl, Jul 23 (UNI) Outgoing Mizoram governor A R Kohli has held Mizoram Pradesh Congress president Lal Thanhawla "responsible" for his removal as the Governor of the state.

Even though his tenure had expired, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and a section of society had requested the Centre to extend his term, Mr Kohli told newsmen here yesterday and alleged that it was due to Mr Lal Thanhawla's efforts, he had to bid adieu to Mizoram.

When it was pointed out that he was only leaving Mizoram after completion of his term, Mr Kohli said even the Governors of Tripura, Meghalaya, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh had been retained long after their terms had expired.

" When the Governors of Tripura, Meghalaya, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh can remain long after their terms have expired, I am being singled out. This is clearly the handiwork of Mr Lal Thanhawla, whose sweetest dream was my removal since I held this post, " he stated.

Meghalaya and Chattisgarh Governors had remained in the posts even after a year and a month had elapsed since their terms ended, while Tripura Governor still retained his post eight months after his term ended.

Andhra Pradesh is yet to have a new Governor four months after its Governor's term ended, Mr Kohli pointed out.

Meanwhile, as per scheduled, his successor Lt Gen M M Lekhera would be sworn as new Governor of Mizoram on July 25.
