MP intensifies campaign on illegal liquor business
Bhopal, July 23: After the Madhya Pradesh Government launched a crackdown on the sale of duplicate brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the state, the role of certain influential people in providing protection to the illegal business has come to knowledge.
Besides, excise department teams are attacked by anti-social elements whenever a raid is carried out. Recently, district excise officer Sanjay Dubey and five other officials, who raided an illegal liquor den, were injured in an attack.
According to official sources, police have arrested the accused but the culprits have the protection of an influential leader.
However, the government has directed to continue the campaign despite these circumstances.
UB Group Executive Director Captain V K Sharma has written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and sought his intervention in the matter.
He demanded strict action against suppliers of duplicate IMFL liquor brands to prevent adverse impact on people's health and loss of revenue to the government.
He claimed that these duplicate brands were being smuggled to adjoining states, including Maharashtra.
Captain Sharma said he had written several times to the government before in this regard. He urged the Chief Minister for a high-level inquiry into the incident in Ratlam district.
