Construction of church triggers tension in Hubli
Hubli, July 23 (UNI) Tension prevailed for some time in Morarji nagar and Lohia nagar here today when residents opposed construction of a church in the area.
The trouble started when police tried to remove the Saffron flag put up at the construction site by the residents.
The residents complained that Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority had allotted the land for construction of a church in the area when only three Christian families lived there. The land could instead be allotted for construction of a school or a community hall, they argued.
Following the commotion, the authorities left the place without removing the flag.
