Port Blair, Jul 23: Lone member of Parliament from Andaman and Nicobar islands Manoranjan Bhakta has met Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi to discussed about the financial relief package for business community here.

The implementation of this package has been delayed considerably, causing much distress and dissatisfaction among the tsunami affected businessmen of the islands, Mr Bhakta told UNI today.

Mr Bhakta said Mr Chidambaram has assured that a meeting had been convened on July 24, 2006 to approve the proposal in its original form to cover all the borrowers.

A major earthquake followed by tsunami here claimed more than 3800 people and destroyed business and properties worth millions.

The relief package would help all the affected businessmen, Mr Bhakta added.
