Haryana Governor invites IT giants to the region

Chandigarh, July 21 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today called upon the leaders of the IT companies to set up their ventures in this region in a big way, by utilising the facility and the liberal policies being extended by the Governments here.

Dr Kidwai, delivering the valedictory address at the two-day e-Revolution-2006 Conference which concluded here today, said he was witness of the development taking place in the tri-city as leading IT companies like Infosys, Satyam, Wipro and foreign and Indian concerns were setting up their ventures here.

He stated this region was known for its high literacy base, presence of leading research institutions and excellent infrastructure. Chandigarh and its satellite towns of Mohali and Panchkula were emerging as promising alternative destinations for IT industry. Their nearness to New Delhi and airport facilities were added advantage for development of this industry.

The Governor said Haryana was one of the leaders in the Information Technology and in the last financial year there was record software export of Rs10,700 crore.

After success at Gurgaon, the state government had decided to set up an IT Park in the foothills of Shivalik in Panchkula district in view of the congenial atmosphere for the development of software industry.

He stated the Governments here had adopted entrepreneur-friendly policies with considerable flexibility to encourage the Technology Parks and IT Corridors. Attractive incentives had been extended to the IT Industry and 60 multinational companies had set up their head offices in the state.

Dr Kidwai said the applied services had increased in Gurgaon in a big way and it was second only to Bangalore in this field. Due to liberal policies of the state government new openings had been given to the private-public-partnership leading to the development of IT Parks and Corridors in this region.

He urged the giants of the IT Industry to extend the use of IT facilities in the rural areas as well saying we should strive to improve the life style of our people. The Governor said the state government was computerising the projects like land record, property registration, treasuries, commercial taxes, transport and municipalities for implementing citizen-centric applications of e-Governance.

''India has witnessed rapid growth of IT, ITes and BPO sector.

However, there is a further need to strive hard for creating a business ecosystem to meet the challenges while the opportunities are knocking the doors,'' Dr Kidwai said adding that the industry must effectively use these opportunities.

The Governor expressed hope that the region would emerge as a zone of excellence by bringing together a critical mass of interconnected companies, specialised suppliers, service providers and associated institutions to compete and also cooperate.
