Trade bodies, employee orgns welcome setting up of 6th pay commn
New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) Central Government employee organisations and labour bodies today welcomed the Centre's announcement to set up the Sixth Central Pay Commission.
While welcoming the Centre's decision to set up the pay commission, the Confederation of Central Government employees and workers, however, expressed their disappointment over the fact that instead of granting interim relief of Rs 1000 to the employees, the matter had been referred to the commission.
''No indication has been given by the government to the effect that date of effect of revised wage structure recommended by the Sixth Central Pay Commission will be January 1, 2006 so as to ensure that wage revision takes place after a period of ten years as recommended by the fifth Pay Commission,'' confederation secretary general S K Vyas said in a statement.
He said the employees would observe July 25 as All India protest day by holding demonstrations and dharnas all over the country to press their demand for interim relief.
Welcoming the decision of the Centre, the All India Trade Union Congress demanded that the terms of reference of the commission include postal gramin dak sevaks too, who as per a judgement of the Supreme Court, are central government employees and are poorest of the poor among them.
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, while welcoming the constitution of the Sixth Pay Commission, also demanded that Central Government employees be paid at least Rs 1000 per month as interim relief till the commission's recommendations were implemented.
The decision to set up the commission with a tenure of 18 months was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is likely to announce its three members in a few days, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters today.
