Mizoram teachers' stir disrupt exams in schools
Aizawl, July 20 (UNI) Students of higher secondary schools across the state could not sit for their examinations, thanks to their teacher's three-day mass casual leave agitation which commenced from Tuesday here.
Since the Mizoram Post Graduate Teachers Associations' (MPGTA) strike has coincided with the first terminal exams, higher secondary schools, including government owned and private ones, especially in the state capital, were unable to conduct the exams as students and teachers failed to turn up.
Those schools with regular post graduate teachers were worst hit.
However, few schools with the help of teachers on contract basis were able to conduct the examinations today.
The PG teachers started a three-day mass casual leave strike from Tuesday to protest the state government's alleged violation of recruitment rules.
The MPGTA has alleged that the state government filled up all vacant principals' posts directly with headmasters of secondary and higher secondary schools which is against the principal recruitment rules.
According to the rules, the principals' posts are to be filled up 50 per cent from vice-principals and 50 per cent from headmasters, having a masters degree and five years' regular service in the grade, the PG teachers said.
