Cabinet Gives consent for cooperation in health sector with Fiji

New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) The Union Cabinet in a meeting here today approved the signing of the agreement in the field of health and medicine between India and Fiji for a period of five years.

Briefing newsmen, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the bilateral agreement will encourage cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of government of Fiji Islands in the fields of health and medicine on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit.

He said the agreement was signed on October 10, 2005 during the visit of the Fiji Prime Minister to India.

He said agreement covered the areas of medical treatment referral, drugs and pharmaceutical products, medical consumabale products, clinical service development, medical equipment, public health, communicable disease control and surveillance and hospital management.

The cooperation is envisaged to take the following areas like exchange of information in the field of health and medicine, exchange of health and medical experts, training in the mutually agreed identified areas, deputation of experts to attend international meetings held in either country and conducting symposia, academic meetings and working meetings.

He said similar agreements/plan of cooperation had been signed with other countries like Hungary, Yemen, Seychelles, Tanzania and Austria in the past.
